"They're Going Home" -2008
This painting is part of my 3 painting series going to Musicares. Neil Diamond is the MusiCares Person of the Year for the 51st Grammy Awards.
The name of this painting comes from my 2 year old Daughter Maya.She would tell me that the Fall leaves were going home. There was a pile of leaves at the bottom of my stairway and when I got to them I stepped slowly in. Listening to that rustling and crunching sound, I put a handful of leaves into my pocket. Later that night I started this painting and crumbled the leaves into the paint.
This really was an amazing painting. I lost control at 1 point and all the face disappeared. I repainted and burnt again and again and Neil came back. I really struggled with controlling the final image. I had to let go and let the art work be finished. I framed and complained at the same time.
Well I can't believe how many stories I get about Neil Diamond! Seeing this painting in person has impact for sure. Maybe soon I'll have a photo of Neil and this painting together?!
